Split the Atom is a complex trick. There are a lot of strings and a lot of steps, which means plenty of places to get lost or make a mistake.

The trick in steps

  1. Get into the mount

    Start in a Split Bottom Mount.

  2. Move your non-throw hand

    Move your non-throw hand under and around the yoyo towards you until your index finger is pushing the two front strings forward.

  3. Move your throw hand

    Move your throw hand under the yoyo and away from you as the yoyo lands on the string you are pushing with your index finger.

  4. Flip forward

    Insert your throw hand index finger between the strings and flip forward three times, as in a Braintwister.

  5. Unfold and bind

    Unfold the strings and bind to catch the yoyo.

Tips

  • Spread the strings apart to make room for landing on the correct string
  • Flip forward 3 times

Common mistakes

  • Dropping all the strings before the return instead of dismounting
