The trick in steps
- Land an Undermount
Throw a Breakaway, then push against the string with your index finger and land in an Undermount, throw palm facing up.
- Flip your palm
Flip your throw palm over so it faces down and the string lies over the top. Swing the yoyo to the other side, still on the string.
- Regenerate the throw
As you let the string go from your index finger, swing the yoyo over your palm again. When you feel it bind back to you, you almost re-throw it. This is called a Regeneration.
- Grab a slack loop
After the regeneration, grab the string with your non-throw hand to create a slack loop.
- Grind and whip
Immediately start an arm grind on your non-throw arm and whip the slack loop onto the yoyo as it grinds along your arm.
- Repeat the roll
You have now completed one Barrel Roll. Repeat the last two steps together for as many Barrel Rolls as you want.
- Unfold and bind
Unfold the strings and do a Frontstyle Bind to return the yoyo to your hand.
Tips
- In Brother Mount, don't let the yoyo get too close to your throw hand, which gives you better slack control in the next step
- Don't whip the slack into the yoyo gap directly
- You can hold the yoyo in the air until the slack falls
- Then straighten your arm and use the grind to lead the yoyo into the slack
- Place the string on the back of your throw hand before the bind regeneration
- Bind in the correct direction
Common mistakes
- Not whipping the slack around your throw hand
- Starting the grind after the yoyo is already hanging in the slack
