Trapeze on a Spin Top
In Trapeze the spin top carries all of its weight on its tip, spinning horizontally on the string. It should not work, but it does.

The trick in steps
Trapeze holds the spin top on the string while it spins in a horizontal position.
Start with Boomerang and balance the spinning spin top on your palm.
Move your arm slightly up and behind you, keeping the string right in front of the spin top.
Move your arm down and in front of you to lean the spin top downwards, then drop it off your hand so the tip lands right on the string.
Make a counterclockwise circle with both hands, then pull your hands apart to pop the spin top back up onto your hand.
That counterclockwise motion of your hands on the string flips the spin top back to vertical.
Pop the spin top up and land it back on your palm.
Tips
- Keep the string as close as possible to the spin top's tip
- Grab the string with your non-throw hand to control its position
- Pull the spin top back to your hand when it is almost vertical
Common mistakes
- Keeping the string too loose
- Keeping the string too tight
- Not leaning the spin top downwards
- Pulling up to your hand while the spin top is still horizontal
- Not using the full length of the string
