Your spin top string arrives with one end already tied to the finger ring. The other end you attach yourself, to the string ring. Do that before you wind.

Step by step
The string has two ends: one comes attached to the finger ring, the other you attach to the string ring.
Pull the string through the hole in the string ring and tie a knot at the end.
Cut off the excess string if you need to. Now you are ready to wind up your spin top.

- Cut the excess string only once the knot holds
